St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort was born on the 31st January 1673 in a small town of Montfort in France. From his childhood days he was virtuous, service minded and showed special love for the poor. He loved and admired Mary, the mother of Jesus. He became a priest and worked tirelessly for God and the people. He moved, from place to place with the message of God’s love. He taught the poor people and championed their cause. His love for the poor, the abandoned and the beggars made him blunt, rugged and unpolished. They loved him as their friend. St. Louis de Montfort was an extremely versatile man, a great scholar, powerful speaker, philosopher, writer, poet, musician, artist, sculptor, choreographer and social reformer. The Montfortian philosophy is one of totality, ‘globality’ and universality – terms which are very relevant in today’s world. The Montfortian system aims at “total education” – the development of body, mind and spirit. A montfortian student will have “fullness” in life and be a useful citizen of his country, a faithful and loving person to his family and friends and a fulfilled and contended human being. Montfort was courageous in speaking the truth and did what was right before God. The powerful people of his day victimized him for his honesty and convictions. His life was humble and simple. He died at the early age of 43 on April 28, 1716. People considered him a Saint even when he was alive. The Church later declared him a Saint. Montfort established many groups of religious congregations to carry on his good work. One such Society is Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel who are managing Little Flower School. The flame lit by the “Holy man” continues to glow and shine with great intensity even after three centuries. The students and the staff of Little Flower School share our efforts to spread the ‘flame’ to the world.
